The ability to read is the bedrock of education--and phonics is the bedrock of reading. If a child can read fluently, he or she will be able to learn more about all of the other subjects. We must not overlook the incredible importance of how we teach students to read. Many schools use the look-say method of teaching reading, and it fails to give students the building blocks (phonics) of reading.
The Reading Adventure manuals provide a step-by-step process on how to teach children to read through the use of phonics. I am thrilled that this material is now available for use in our schools across Nigeria.
For schools that are passionate about the education of our children, the Reading Adventure manuals should be an essential part of the curriculum.
___Marlene Wiebe and Hosea Danjuma have a great vision for empowering teachers with these methods of teaching reading through phonics. They have included many ideas for teaching aids in order to help the students learn to read through as many avenues as possible (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic). The end result will be fluent readers who have a strong educational advantage. For the sake of our children and our future, let's invest in developing our children's ability to read with phonics.

I would like to start by giving God the glory and to appreciate the Lillo family and TPRA Team for their tremendous impact in the lives of our pupils in the aspect of reading. Before the introduction of The Phonics Reading Adventure in the school, some our pupils found it very difficult to recognize and identify their alphabet letter names, say their sounds and even to pronounce words and read simple sentences. But today, nursery three (3) pupils can read three and four letter words respectively. With this, it is a great improvement to the school. The parents are so thankful for the impact of the program as they see their little children reading.

    I was very pleased with the result of using the materials. All the children in primary 1 could read almost all the companion readers and other books after we began teaching them to read using the The Phonics Reading Adventure materials for 1 year.

    Salvation Nursery/Primary school, Shendam (southern zone of Plateau State).
    The coming of The Reading Adventure in the southern zone of plateau state was in May 2016. After a little while, children in Nursery Three began to blend 2-3 letter words. Prior to this, many children in Primary 3-5 could not read. With the result, the teacher met the head teacher and informed him of the progress made so far. That led to the decision of the school to adopt the The Phonics Reading Adventure materials, and to fully implement it in the school. Before the term ended, parents were impressed with the result, as children could begin to read.
    Some thought the children were just cramming (reading through rote learning) but to their surprise, they blended the sounds and read. As a result, a parent who was so excited about the performance of his child went and paid the child's school fees, saying,

    'I will strive hard to pay for my child's fees no matter what it takes because he can read'.


    __The news of the impact of The Phonics Reading Adventure in this school spurred other neighboring schools to also key into the program which led to over ten (10) schools in the southern zone of plateau state, (three different LGAs) to adopt the materials. and by September 2017 all those schools were using the materials fully.

    My son attended a reputable school but lacked interest in learning. For Primary One, I enrolled him in a school using The Phonics Reaading Adventure curriculum. He became interested in learning as a result of the phonics teaching. Within a short time he began to read simple words fluently. Before long, Jeremiah could carry the Bible, Magazines, and News Papers and read them fluently. Phonics planted in him a passion for reading.
